Part 1 of the live recording of the performance at the Quinn’s in Beacon, New York, from April 18, 2023
AUDIENCE RECORDING
During the 2023 tour, a concert at Quinn’s in Beacon was naturally on the schedule. Quinn’s has been a place where I felt very welcome with my music since I first played there, and the audience always shows great interest. So I couldn’t miss it on the 2023 tour.
For the second part, David Rothenberg joined me on stage. As the show concluded and the applause faded, David shared a brief and deep story about Wayne Shorter and his fellow band member, Danilo Perez.
For the recording of this session, we didn’t record the signal from the mixing console as usual, but I happened to get an audience recording from a stereo microphone placed in the room, close to the stage.
Not only does the sound quality differ from the other recordings of this tour and the entire release series, but you can also clearly hear the ambient noise from the bar and the entire room, and sometimes snippets of conversation from the guests can be overheard. I deliberately present this recording in its current form because I find it an extremely interesting atmospheric document and want to offer the listener a unique sonic experience.
Also check out Christine’s drawings to see how she captured and illustrated the atmosphere of the bar!
