Bernhard Wöstheinrich & Stephen Parsick – Ultima Ratio

We had just finished all preparations for the release of ULTIMA RATIO, when we received the news of the sudden death of Klaus Schulze. Full of sadness we would like to dedicate to him the piece “Mundane” as a farewell greeting from us to his new cosmic address.

What if a handful of specific genre-defining releases seemed to have already said everything that could have been said? What if a strong suspicion remained that there must be more to be found and more to be explored in depth? Bernhard Wöstheinrich (TaboTago, centrozoon) and Stephen Parsick ([‘ramp]) were facing this very question when they joined forces to cross the Rubycon once more and embark on a journey deep into the still uncharted territories of floating synth ostinatos and mellow choirs, as vague as a mirage.

Having known each other for more than twenty years, Stephen and Bernhard eventually decided it was about time to collaborate. In their own right, either of them has a profound background and reputation in what is commonly called Berlin School. Yet, they have never felt quite satisfied with creating yet another interpretation of this style but, instead, they have been striving for nothing less than a bravura piece.

As much as this release clearly is a treat for die-hard fans of the eerie and krautily spooky sound of 1970s Berlin, it is also a statement of current creative musicianship and of an advanced level of knowledge of how to create music that, on the one hand, is firmly rooted in tradition and, on the other, still has validity and purpose in our very time

Volker Lankow & Bernhard Wöstheinrich – Creatures In Haunting Cities

“Creatures In Haunting Cities” is a very personal take by Volker Lankow on the release & graphic short story “Undesirable Creatures”
For the Live Stream performance that was set for the release of this project the music were broken down into individual tracks and elements so that Volker could play around re-arrange and re-mix the whole music in his very personal ambient style.

“Undesirable Creatures”, the initial release to “Creatures In Haunting Cities”, is a graphic short story of a magician stranded in a post-war Moscow, accompanied by a music soundtrack that embraces, enhances and underscores the eerie mood of the chapters much like a movie score.

Tracks 1 – 3: Volker Lankow: Soundscapes, Drones & Samples Fragements and indivudual tracks composed by Bernhard Wöstheinrich.
Track 4: Electronics by Volker Lankow and Bernhard Wöstheinrich

The limited edition print is a rendition in the technique of lino-cutting of an existing artwork that Christine Kriegerowski already created for the 39th edition of the Materiaal Series Releases.

This print also refers to a tarot card, namely the “Fool”.
The Fool represents new beginnings, having faith in the future, being inexperienced, not knowing what to expect, having beginner’s luck, improvisation and believing in the universe.

Elsewhere Project – Performing Undesirable Creatures – The Live Stream Event

On the occasion of the release of “Undesirable Creatures”; a collaboration with comic artist Matt Howarth, at February 26, 2022 there was a live stream event with a performance by the Elsewhere Project.

This release documents the entire performance, split into eight parts.

The originally arranged songs from “Undesirable Creatures” were broken down into individual tracks and elements and then remixed and re-arranged live during the performance.
Images and motifs from Matt Howarth’s graphic short story on which the initial music is based on were presented in the backdrop.
