TaboTago – Sessions 009 – 20211217 Corroding Modernism

A studio session recorded on December 17, 2021, Berlin, Germany.
The session was recorded in one go, with no overdubs and no pre-arrangements.

With this release we are referring to “Internationales Congress Centrum Berlin” (abbreviated ICC Berlin), one of the largest conference centres in the world. It is 320 metres long, 80 metres wide and 40 metres high. It opened in 1979 as sort of a counterpart to another iconic futuristic building in Berlin, the Palace of the Republic, which had opened only three years before.

The ICC Berlin is a landmark of German post-war architecture, in which the spirit of an optimistic modernism is very present.

But if you look at the building up close now, the corrosion is already pretty obvious. In addition to that, the whole building is contaminated with asbestos. It seems that it became a symbol of decay of the promises for a better future that we were once given.

ABOUT TABOTAGO SESSIONS SERIES

TaboTago is all about experimenting, playing and performing electronic music together. A lot of material has been created during live concerts and recording sessions over the past years, still ongoing in the present.
We are making this material available to our audience in a TaboTago Sessions Series. The music presented here was played mostly under live conditions or similar.

Bernhard Wöstheinrich – Live in Nazareth 2011

subscriber series

“Live in Nazareth 2011” is the recording of the concert at the Soundscape Concert Series in Nazareth, PA, USA, October 2, 2011.

https://bernhardwoestheinrich.bandcamp.com/album/live-in-nazareth-2011

Ranging from floating ambient sections, classically inspired synthesizer music to sequencer work-outs and innovative electronica this record documents how Bernhard already then has developed his personal way of performing complex orchestral live looping performances without pre-arrangements.

The release “Live in New Jersey 2011” is from the same tour, and it is very interesting to listen this music in comparison and to understand the connection between the individual performances.

Bernhard Wöstheinrich & Alexander Paul Dowerk – Materiaal 053︱Vault Amusement 20220212

Materiaal Series, Vol. 053

On February 12, 2022, Alexander Paul Dowerk, a Berlin-based music producer, composer and touch guitarist, was invited to a Materiaal recording session at the Secret Vault Studio in Kreuzberg, Berlin.
The recordings resulted in a complex and powerful interplay between Bernhard and Alexander, rich in variety. Alexander brought a strong sense of detail and groove with complex rhythmical structures to Bernhard’s impromtu electronica madness.

Bernhard Wöstheinrich & Volker Lankow – Materiaal 052︱Studio Session 20210812

Materiaal Series, Vol. 052

A set of impromptu performed electronic music, recorded on August 12, 2021 in Berlin, Germany.

It’s August 2021, and the live public music scene is still in a state of total gridlock. But for a musician it also doesn’t seem to be an appropriate reaction to stop making music altogether. Hoping for better times, I invited Volker to my studio for a recording session.
