In philosophy of mind, qualia are the raw, subjective “what it is like” aspects of conscious experience. They are the felt qualities of experiences, such as what it is like to see purple, taste coffee, feel pleasure, or hear a string note.
In the latest edition of the Qualia series, the core concept of stretching, reshaping, and transforming raw audio into entirely new textures is expanded and taken in a new direction. The entire soundscape is based on a single piano performance that I played.
By applying the series’ signature techniques of stretching and reshaping to this raw, acoustic foundation, the album offers an intimate, fine-grained examination of one instrument’s unique resonance and harmonic flow.
