The beat is back. Following the initial launch of the “Bernhard on Tapes” series with the album “Anchorage“, which was released back in September 2022, the project is officially resuming with a bold new creative direction.
The return to the series has a raw, minimalist approach. Drawing inspiration from the flow of live DJ sets, the music pairs hypnotic ambient backdrops with sharp, flanking off-kilter beats. The drums have been processed, pushing the sound into gritty, industrial territory. However, the overall sound, in line with the theme of this release series, has a warm, tape-like quality.
This is an intentional sonic experiment in which common musical structures are altered, stripped back and left in a curiously unfinished state.
